Adding .gitignore file to existing repo

Step 1: Update gitignore file as needed. Save below lines to .gitignore file.

*.swp
*.*~
project.lock.json
.DS_Store
*.pyc
nupkg/

# Visual Studio Code
.vscode

# Rider
.idea

# User-specific files
*.suo
*.user
*.userosscache
*.sln.docstates

# Build results
[Dd]ebug/
[Dd]ebugPublic/
[Rr]elease/
[Rr]eleases/
x64/
x86/
build/
bld/
[Bb]in/
[Oo]bj/
[Oo]ut/
msbuild.log
msbuild.err
msbuild.wrn

# Visual Studio 2015
.vs/

Step 2: Then commit all pending changes along with .gitignore file

Then run this command:

git rm -r --cached .

This removes everything from the index, then just run:

git add .

Commit it:

git commit -m ".gitignore is now working"
